Consuming fashion sustainably can be challenging for some people, especially for those who are not into thrifting, yet! But there are many other ways to have a sustainable outfit and closet, besides thrifting items. Consuming sustainably can be easy and accessible for everybody, we all want to look good and feel good, knowing we are doing the best we can, am I right? All these alternatives helps to extend the life of an item and avoid using new resources, and do not forget that it can be fun, exciting and more affordable.
Borrowing
Who doesn’t like having new outfits and alternatives without spending a dime? When growing up we all borrow stuff from our siblings, cousins, friends, etc, but it feels like it stops once we grow up. It is a great alternative not only for items that we like, but for seasonal or for special occasions, such as an event or a trip to a place that requires clothes which are not your everyday clothes.

Swapping is also one of the cheapest ways to get a new outfit, you put something out there that you don’t want anymore and exchange it for something which is new for you! Renting is getting more popular, and that is good! It is a great way to have new outfits and can be a good alternative for people who are looking for something for a special occasion or people who have a busy social life (even a busy work life) and like to always look on point. You get something good which might be out of your budget, and use it for a period that suits you. Many times it is not necessarily about pricing, but about getting a unique outfit for the weekend even if they are from regular brands.
Thrifting (buying pre-loved)
Buying pre-loved is fun and it is one of the most popular alternatives that comes to people minds when wanting to buy sustainably. You can find unique pieces, have the regular shopping experience, most of the time it is more affordable, and they can be a great conversation starter.
Try local first
